We recently returned from Oklahoma, where we attended my brother’s wedding, and Texas where we squeezed in seeing some fantastic art (the Lucian Freud exhibit in Fort Worth and the Dallas Museum of Modern Art). I always really enjoy visiting this part of the country and hadn’t been there in July for a very long time. I was reminded of how friendly people in Oklahoma can be, I had forgotten that. It was also hot, very hot! And the ratio of bugs to humans seems to be a hundred fold. We had what felt like tropical showers in the late afternoon for several days. I love the dramatic weather, as long as it doesn’t get to out of control.
Now, the Lucian Freud exhibit! We had to make the drive from Dallas to Fort Worth to see it as it seemed a once in a life time thing to do. We weren’t disappointed either! About half way through the exhibit though I got a really uneasy feeling once I realized that the very large pieces both felt like you were looking down on them and up at them at the same time (the imagery). He also portray’s a very sad side of humanity, one in which our dreams seem to be unrealized and we are left vulnerable and basically miserable—this which we create in our minds. The piece, “Large Interior”, is one of my favorites I grabbed off the web. I didn’t want to post a nude as he leaves nothing to the imagination and I d0n’t want to get kicked off facebook.
In the Dallas Museum I was able to take a photograph of this piece by Leon Fredric. I find it an interesting juxtaposition to Freud!
I hope not to be kicked out of anyplace for this one!
