Sometimes I get in a mood where I “stew” over things. I’m in one of those moods now. The photograph “Alone”, captures a bit of how I feel.
The international crisis with Syria and global warming recently jumped to the front of my concerns. A friend posted a article by William Polk from The Atlantic Monthly on facebook that linked those two things in my mind. Polk attributed some of the escalation of violence in Syria to global warming. I hope this is not a peek into the future for us.
I found a website last year by Dr. Frank Lipman, who I find has excellent advise. One of the things I found on his site was his practice of Ubuntu—which basically means what makes us human is the humanity we show each other. What would we be if we were “alone”? One could be alone with gobs of money tons of resources but there would really be no reason to “be”. The Ubuntu philosophy affirms that a person is a person through other people, that we are all related, interdependent and connected to each other. Connected.
