A couple of weeks ago Darin Donovan (my husband) and I took a workshop from Kathryn Kain at Smith Anderson Editions in Palo Alto. I took Saturday and Darin took Sunday—we have busy lives–it was hard for each of us to get away for both days! I wanted some inspiration and to refine some new techniques I am trying, namely the pronto plates for image transfers. Kathryn is a fantastic artist and master printmaker and I feel lucky to have worked with her! Oh, and also Smith Anderson has a great exhibit of Inez Storer, who I also took a printmaking workshop with at Kala earlier this year.
The piece “Life is a Mystery” uses lace for making an impression, transfers of photographs, and some text pulled from one of my Grandfather Sweet’s poems. This is one piece in a series of three I did. Darin’s piece uses some vintage kitchen images, he pulled four great prints on Sunday.
Now, I have a lot of work to do on my printmaking press at home!
