I’ve been thinking a lot about culture, noticing the subtleties of different areas. We visited Victoria BC recently and it is so different yet so much the same as the United States. Almost like a eerie other dimension. While we were there they had the 150 year “Symphony Splash”. It was a huge celebration! The Victoria Symphony performed on the water on a barge and some 40,000 people attended. I must say I really can’t imagine something like happening in the US—that there would be that many people who would come out in support of the Symphony—I could be wrong? That weekend was also filled with Electronic Music, Art and street fairs. And they have this thing where people count their flowers in their yard in February and then boast to the rest of Canada about how many flowers are in bloom!
Everyone participates in creating a culture and I believe it is what enables a society to flourish. What is our culture here in the United States? It’s different in different parts of the country, but not so drastically different. I guess the bigger question is what do we want it to be—it’s subtle and it, I believe always always starts with one person—pushing a dream for humanity?
