I took out the cat. If you want to see the painting with the cat, see my last post. The painting and the cat were inspired by Mohammad Alaa Aljaleel, who is an ambulance driver in Aleppo, Syria. He has been helping feed the cats left behind when people started to flee the war, on top of helping the people that stayed behind. His humanity and bravery in the face of this terrible conflict is truly inspiring.
I love this quote from the Tao Te Ching, “Those who have compassion when they do battle will be victorious. Those who likewise defend themselves will be safe. Heaven will rescue and protect them with compassion.”
In re-reading Tao Te Ching, I was reminded of ego–the large, insufferable ego that seems to be our greatest enemy, but the constant companion of those that relish power and money above all else.
