I’ve wanted to do a road trip for years and finally this year it actually happened! The first day we drove 701 miles making it to Seligman, Arizona and the last day we by sheer chance drove 698 miles making home safely to California—with much easier drives in between! We had many great road adventures on our ten day journey through eight states in the western United States. It’s far to much to tell online with text but I will give you pictures!

I started this piece as a doodle—just to free my creative self and then I fell in love with the little person perched on the doodle—the thinking person. This is a bad thing to happen so early on in a piece for me, lately I like to change things erase and then re-do—have a lot of layers with a rich complexity and without attachment to the images. So now I’m stuck. My plan was to use white encaustic (hot wax) in the white space where the little man sits, with words and images fading in and out. When I was in art school I remember a teacher telling me that if you fall in love with one part of your painting you end up sacrificing the whole painting to that one part. So the little person’s thinking about it? What to do?
