After spending a week at Joshua Tree National Park I have semi fallen in love with it. I spent the whole week wondering what it would be like to live there, live there part time or perhaps just oft and on. I came to the conclusion that it’s an acquired taste and I could only live there oft and on. We stayed in at the Joshua Tree Inn where it seems many infamous people have stayed. Lots of westerns were filmed in the area, along with episodes of Star Trek. And it was the subject of a U2 Album The Joshua Tree. There are, I guess, a lot of artists and musicians that live there, or perhaps live there oft and on between LA. There is a very interesting outdoor sculpture exhibition by Noah Purifoy near Joshua Tree that I wish I could have seen when it was first made along with other avant guarde art in the desert. It was actually a little crowded, crowded with some pretty hip and cool people!
While the desert is certainly not for the faint of heart I found the colors beautiful, the palette so different than everywhere else—especially in Joshua Tree. And, the boulders make for fantastic climbing!
